Books we're reading: We've been reading all sorts of books about book handling and how to use the libary. Remind your students that the books go home for 1 day and then they are to be returned. Your child is most welcome to renew their books as we understand how difficult it is sometimes to read it in one day. We don't want the book to go unread.
Author's we're studying: We'll begin studying the author Bill Peet early in January. Who would you like to see next? We've typically done author's who have birthdays during the month that we are in. We haven't looked yet to see who will come up in February.
Activities we're working on: Remind your child that book handling and care is very important. Ask your child what they've learned about how to take care of their books in the library. We don't bend pages, or let them get wet. We make sure they are put away so that younger siblings can't get to them, or the family pets. We put them in our backpack when we're done. We've been using shelf markers in the library to help make sure the book goes back in the right spot. Oh, and ask your child about our Shelf Elf that lives in the library, his name is Scead. He loves to read! He also loves to get letters from the students here at Groton Elem. and to write back to the students. He has a mailbox located in the library.
